I chosed Hiram Revels because he was a very intelligent person. He did a lot for everyone, everyone respected him. He never had anything against white people. He treated everyone equally and treated everyone with respect. Revels was the first senator for 1 year. He loved everyone. He eventually died in Janaury 16, 1901. I admire him because he respected everyone, loved everyone, had good opinions, and was very outspoken.
His famliy owned a barber shop. When their father died Hiram brother took over the barber shop. Later on his brother died in 1841, Hiram brother died when Hiram was turning 21. After the death of his brother Hiram took over. Later on he quit to get an education. He went of to study and he had a dream to become a senater. His family was a really religious person so Hiram belived in God a lot. He countined to do his job and helped a lot of people. He was a really good person and tryed to do many things in his life.
Revels retired from Alcorn in 1882 because the real principal came back from his vacation and Hiram left. He also became secretary of the State in Mississippi in 1873. He was a really religious person, he went to a lot of churches. He was ordained as a minister by an African Melhodist Church. He became an outspoken person and he spoke out his mind. He helped a lot of African Americans. A lot of priest wanted Hiram as a minister in their Church. He helped the African Americans to become free. When he became a Senate a lot of peopel liked him. But the sad thing was he only had 1 year as a senate.
At the year 1868 he was elected as and alderman. The year 1870 Revels was the first one to be elected as an Senater United State,Revels was elected in Mississippi. He was elected to fill in for Jefferson Davis about 10 years earlier. He earned the rescpect from whites and African Americans. He began in February 25, 1870 all the way to March 4, 1871. He return to Mississippi in the year 1871 and was named presidant Alcorn College for Africans Americans.
Hiram Revels was born on September 22, 1827 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was born as a free man as an African American and Indian. Revels was a student at Quaker School in Liberty, Indiana at the year 1844. Hiram attended school in Ohio and was a student in Knox College. Later on he moved to St. Louis to organize a African American School. Revels joined in the army to free all blacks. With the Civil War in the year 1861 he turned his resources to support the Union. Revels got so tired of traveling so many places like Ohio, Missiouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Kanasa, and Illionis. He setteled in Natchez Mississippi then he joined African American Methodist Episcopal Church.
